Cornelius auto glass from Impex Auto Glass is a mobile service. Impex is based at 5641 David Cox Rd in Charlotte and has no storefront on the lake, so the technician brings the glass to your car in Cornelius or in Davidson next door: a home driveway, a marina lot with permission, an office park or a college town side street. Windshield replacement, chip repair, door and back glass and camera calibration can all be done where the car is parked.

Charlotte Mobile Auto Glass is the mobile service of Impex Auto Glass for Charlotte and the Lake Norman towns, and it is not linked to any other company with a Charlotte auto glass name. Requests from this page go to Impex.

Get a quoteCornelius: the town on the lake
Cornelius is a suburban town in northern Mecklenburg County along Lake Norman, with Davidson bordering it to the north and east and Huntersville to the south. The 2020 census counted 31,412 people. Interstate 77 crosses the middle of town, passing west of the original town center, and NC 115 runs through as Main Street. US 21 runs parallel to I-77 south from Catawba Avenue. The town’s western side drains straight into the lake, which means plenty of homes on lots that slope toward the water.
Catawba Avenue, exit 28
Exit 28 at Catawba Avenue is the main door into Cornelius from I-77. The interchange was rebuilt as a diverging diamond in August 2013, and it is also where the I-77 Express Lanes narrow from four lanes to two on their way north. Shopping centers and offices cluster near the exit, and the road runs west toward the lake. Lots here can work for a mobile job with the owner’s agreement.
Old Cornelius and Main Street
East of the interstate, the original town center lies along NC 115. Streets of older homes with driveways close to the road suit a windshield visit well. The town’s history runs back a long way: Potts Plantation near Cornelius dates from 1753 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.
Davidson: the college town to the north
Davidson lies mainly in Mecklenburg County, with a part reaching north into Iredell County, and its western edge borders Lake Norman. It is about 21 miles north of Charlotte by I-77, and had 15,106 residents at the 2020 census. The town grew up around Davidson College, which dates from 1837 and is named for Brigadier General William Lee Davidson, a Revolutionary War figure. I-77 runs along the western side of town, reached at exit 30, Griffith Street, and NC 115 is Main Street here too.
Parking in the center of Davidson is tighter than in the subdivisions around it. A car parked on a narrow street or in a college lot may not have room to open both front doors, so tell Impex what the parking is like when you book. A home driveway or a level workplace lot nearby is often the easier spot.

Windshield replacement in Cornelius and Davidson
A windshield job at the car follows the same steps wherever it happens. Impex orders the glass using VIN-based verification, so the part that arrives has the right camera bracket and sensors. At the car the technician removes the old windshield, prepares the frame, lays fresh urethane and sets the new glass, then refits the mirror, cowl and wipers. Impex says a windshield takes about one hour plus a short curing period, and most cars are back on the road within two hours.
Most newer cars then need their forward camera calibrated, because I-CAR lists removing the windshield as an event that may require the camera to be aimed again. Impex states that it performs ADAS calibration on site immediately after windshield replacement, with static and dynamic calibration possible in one visit, taking between 30 minutes and 2 hours. A static calibration needs level ground and space in front of the car. A sloping lakeside driveway may not give it, and in that case Impex will plan another spot for that part of the job.

Chips from the causeway and the interstate
Between exits 30 and 31, I-77 crosses Lake Norman on the causeway on its way to Mooresville. Commuters from both towns spend a lot of time on this stretch, and stones thrown up by trucks and tires are part of the trip. North Carolina’s G.S. 20-116(g) requires trucks over 7,500 pounds carrying rock, gravel or stone to keep the load six inches below the walls and covered, but that does not stop everything.
A small chip can often be filled with resin at the car before it runs. ROLAGS, the windshield repair standard, treats stone breaks up to two inches across and single line cracks up to 14 inches as repairable, though position matters as much as size. See mobile windshield repair in Charlotte for what can be fixed.
Door, side and back glass
Side and door windows are tempered glass and are replaced rather than repaired. Impex says side window replacement usually takes 30 to 60 minutes and the car can be driven straight away. Back glass takes one to two hours, with the defroster connections reconnected and the rear defroster left off for 24 hours afterwards. If a window is broken open, take valuables out, cover the gap with heavy plastic taped to the paint and call Impex with the address.
What a visit in Cornelius or Davidson needs
- A level, firm spot, ideally a garage, carport or flat driveway.
- Room to open both front doors fully and walk around the front of the car.
- Dry glass: cover if rain is due, as wind off the lake can drive it under a carport.
- Permission where the lot is private: marinas, office parks, apartment complexes and college lots.
- The VIN, the address and a phone number for the day.

Insurance in Cornelius and Davidson
In North Carolina glass damage is normally a comprehensive claim, paid less your deductible, and no state law waives the deductible for glass. Some policies include full glass coverage, so check yours. You decide who does the work: G.S. 58-3-180 says a policy must allow the claimant to select the repair service, and the insurer pays the same either way. Impex works with all major insurance providers and can handle the claim. A comprehensive glass claim is not an at-fault accident, so it adds no Safe Driver Incentive Plan points, though insurers may weigh how often you claim.
